They predicted that in about 4 billion years the two galaxies would collide, and chaos would ensue.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syfy.com\/syfy-wire\/breathe-easy-you-have-an-extra-600-million-years-before-andromeda-crashes-into-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an update to the measurements indicated that Andromeda was sliding to the side a little bit more than previously thought<\/a>, delaying the inevitable collision by about 600 million years.<\/p>\n<p>But now <a href=\"https:\/\/astro.unistra.fr\/en\/2021\/10\/07\/m31-and-milky-way-encounter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new results have been published using updated data<\/a>, and they imply that Andromeda\u2019s sideways motion still higher yet.
