While there are proposals for sending robotic missions, sending astronauts to nearby stars and exoplanets simply isn\u2019t feasible yet.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to new research led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0094576521005518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\">University of California<\/a>, interstellar missions could be conducted in the near future that would have tardigrades (aka. \u201cWater Bears\u201d) as their crew.<\/p>\n<p>The study, titled \u201cThe First Interstellar Astronauts Will Not Be Human,\u201d was conducted by researchers from UC Santa Barbara, the UCLA Health Center, the University of Florida, and Ruhr-University Bochum. It will be published in the January 2022 issue of <em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0094576521005518#!\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\">Acta Astronautica<\/a><\/em><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s more likely than you think.
