A team from <a href=\"https:\/\/parabon-nanolabs.com\/\">Parabon NanoLabs<\/a> presented the trio\u2019s facial reconstructions at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishinews.com\/\">International Symposium on Human Identification<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]his is the first time comprehensive DNA phenotyping has been performed on human DNA of this age,\u201d says Parabon, a Virginia-based company that typically uses genetic analysis to help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2020\/01\/14\/parabon-labs-is-having-huge-success-solving-cold-cases-and-thats-just-the-start\/\">solve cold cases<\/a>, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/parabon-nanolabs.com\/news-events\/2021\/09\/parabon-recreates-egyptian-mummy-faces-from-ancient-dna.html\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To approximate the men\u2019s faces, researchers used <a href=\"https:\/\/snapshot.parabon-nanolabs.com\/phenotyping\">DNA phenotyping<\/a>, which predicts individuals\u2019 physical appearance based on genetic markers. (Phenotyping can suggest subjects\u2019 skin, hair and eye color, but as Caitlin Curtis and James Hereward wrote for the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/innovation\/how-accurately-can-scientists-reconstruct-persons-face-from-dna-180968951\/\">Conversation<\/a> <\/em>in 2,018 the process has its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/researchers-take-bias-out-facial-reconstruction-180962964\/\">limitations<\/a>.)
