{"id":127958,"date":"2021-09-22T10:22:39","date_gmt":"2021-09-22T17:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/scientists-find-a-new-way-to-reverse-immune-suppression-in-tumors"},"modified":"2021-09-22T10:22:39","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T17:22:39","slug":"scientists-find-a-new-way-to-reverse-immune-suppression-in-tumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/scientists-find-a-new-way-to-reverse-immune-suppression-in-tumors","title":{"rendered":"Scientists find a new way to reverse immune suppression in tumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/scientists-find-a-new-way-to-reverse-immune-suppression-in-tumors3.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These club cell-secreted factors are able to nullify immune suppressor cells that otherwise help tumors escape an effective antitumor response,\u201d said co-senior author Dr. Vivek Mittal, director of research at the Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Center and the Ford-Isom Research Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. \u201cWe\u2019re excited by the possibility of developing these club cell factors into a cancer treatment.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Malignant tumors can enhance their ability to survive and spread by suppressing antitumor immune cells in their vicinity, but a study led by researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian has uncovered a new way to counter this immunosuppressive effect.<\/p>\n<p>In the study, published Sept. 20 in <i>Nature Cancer<\/i>, the researchers identified a set of anti-immunosuppressive factors that can be secreted by <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/cells\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">cells<\/a> called <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/club\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">club<\/a> cells that line airways in the lungs.
