While TV dramas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.procpr.org\/blog\/entertainment\/cpr-in-lost-tv-show\" class=\"\">give the impression<\/a> that CPR is often successful, the reality is grim. Only around 10.6 percent of those who experience cardiac arrest are later discharged from the hospital, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajemjournal.com\/article\/S0735-6757(18)30117-7\/fulltext\" class=\"\">according to a 2018 study<\/a>, though those numbers fluctuate depending the severity and timing of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful God gave me a second chance,\u201d Patten <a href=\"https:\/\/detroit.cbslocal.com\/2021\/09\/15\/kathy-patten-medical-miracle-brought-back-to-life\/\" class=\"\">told <em>CBS<\/em> affiliate <em>WJZ-TV<\/em><\/a><em>. \u201c<\/em>I\u2019m just going to be the best person I can be.
