Original post <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article\">https:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>With enough training, most humans can learn how to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Human_echolocation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">echolocate<\/a>, using their tongue to make clicking sounds, and interpreting the sounds of the echoes that come back, reflected from the surrounding environment.<\/p>\n<p>In as few as 10 weeks, researchers were able to teach participants how to navigate obstacles and recognize the size and orientation of objects using the rebounding calls of their clicks. The experiment involved 12 participants who\u2019d been diagnosed as legally blind during their childhood, and 14 sighted people.<\/p>\n<p>Echolocation is a skill we usually associate with animals such as bats and whales, but some blind humans <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10162-019-00728-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also use the echoes of their own sounds<\/a> to detect obstacles and their outlines.
