The two missions, called DAVINCI+ and VERITAS, will respectively study the planet\u2019s <a class href=\" https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/science\/why-does-venus-atmosphere-spin-much-faster-than-the-planet\">atmosphere<\/a> and <a class href=\" https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/58824-venus-exploration-forgotten-planet-where-did-all-the-water-go\">geological history<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese two sister missions both aim to understand how Venus became an inferno-like world capable of melting lead at the surface,\u201d Nelson said during his State of NASA address. \u201cThey will offer the entire science community the chance to investigate a planet we haven\u2019t been to in more than 30 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These two new projects have been awarded $500 million in funding each, and are expected to launch between 2028 and 2030.
