The group \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/sakurasamurai.pro\/\">Sakura Samurai<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/robertwillishacking.com\/fermilab-hack-april-may-2021\/\">discovered<\/a> configuration data for the lab\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/novaexperiment.fnal.gov\/\">NoVa<\/a> experiment and more than 4500 \u201ctickets\u201d for tracking internal projects.<\/p>\n<p>The Sakura Samurai team has previous experience probing the vulnerabilities of scientific and educational organizations, which hold critical information that if leaked could put those institutions at risk. \u201cFermilab was no different,\u201d Sakura Samurai leader Robert Willis told <em><i>Physics World<\/i><\/em>. \u201cOversharing can be very dangerous, especially when it\u2019s sharing credentials that could enable a malicious actor to take over a server with the potential to move across their network to access items that the organization wouldn\u2019t even think of being vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group of \u201cethical hackers\u201d has obtained access to sensitive systems and proprietary online data hosted by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in the US after accessing multiple unsecured entry points in late April and early May.
