It described the tests as \u201craising students\u2019 awareness of the challenges of tomorrow,\u201d which include the \u201crobotization of the battlefield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/lignesdedefense.blogs.ouest-france.fr\/archive\/2021\/03\/31\/quand-emia-part-au-combat-avec-des-robots-terrestres-22012.html\">report<\/a> by French newspaper <em>Ouest-France <\/em>offers more detail, saying that Spot was one of a number of robots being tested by students from France\u2019s \u00c9cole Militaire Interarmes (Combined Arms School), with the intention of assessing the usefulness of robots on future battlefields.<\/p>\n<p>Boston Dynamics\u2019 vice president of business development Michael Perry told <em>The Verge<\/em> that the robot had been supplied by a European distributor, Shark Robotics, and that the US firm had not been notified about this particular use. \u201cWe\u2019re learning about it as you are,\u201d says Perry. \u201cWe\u2019re not clear on the exact scope of this engagement.\u201d The company says it was aware that its robots were being used with the French government, including the military.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spot was apparently being used for reconnaissance.
