The orbital residents also conducted vein and eye checks and prepared for three new crew members due in early April.<\/p>\n<p>NASA Flight Engineer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/astronauts\/biographies\/shannon-walker\/biography\">Shannon Walker<\/a> joined Russian cosmonauts <a href=\"http:\/\/en.roscosmos.ru\/20651\/\">Sergey Ryzhikov<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.roscosmos.ru\/21634\/\">Sergey Kud-Sverchkov<\/a> for vein and eye scans on Thursday. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut <a href=\"https:\/\/gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fiss.jaxa.jp%2Fen%2Fastro%2Fbiographies%2Fnoguchi%2Findex.html&data=04%7C01%7Cmark.a.garcia%40nasa.gov%7C98227db6a334434691a608d8eeece176%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C637522048462837593%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=orLfuIyBU11376L7Vqx43eXVZlhsNbzSh12rEXvUu1U%3D&reserved=0\">Soichi Noguchi<\/a> led the effort scanning veins in the trio\u2019s neck, clavicle and shoulder areas using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/station\/research\/experiments\/explorer\/Facility.html?#id=736\">Ultrasound 2 device<\/a> in the morning. In the afternoon, Noguchi examined Walker\u2019s eyes using the orbiting lab\u2019s optical coherence tomography gear.<\/p>\n<p>Walker also assisted fellow Flight Engineer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/astronauts\/biographies\/kathleen-rubins\">Kate Rubins<\/a> of NASA setting up samples of tiny worms for viewing in a microscope. Rubins captured video of the microscopic worms wriggling around to learn how microgravity affects genetic expression and muscle function.
