The system could boost energy efficiency in data centres and lighten the loads of electronics-rich spacecraft. Researchers presented their breakthrough at the recent IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference, held virtually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s an explosion in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futuretimeline.net\/blog\/images\/2219-worldwide-data-created.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">amount of information<\/a> being shared between computer chips \u2013 cloud computing, the Internet, big data. And a lot of this happens over conventional copper wire,\u201d says Jack Holloway, who led the research.
