Developed by researchers at the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"University of Sydney\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=-33.8877777778,151.187222222&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=-33.8877777778,151.187222222%20%28University%20of%20Sydney%29&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">University of Sydney<\/a> and the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Australian Astronomical Observatory\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=-31.27667,149.06667&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=-31.27667,149.06667%20%28Australian%20Astronomical%20Observatory%29&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Australian Astronomical Observatory<\/a>, the optical-fibre bundles can sample the light from up to 60 parts of a galaxy, for a dozen galaxies at a time. The technological leap is the \u2018hexabundle\u2019, sixty or more optical fibres close-packed and fused together, developed by the University of Sydney\u2019s astrophotonics group.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-more\" style=\"float: left;\">Using the new instrument astronomers from the Australian National University and the University of Sydney have already spotted \u2018galactic winds\u2019\u2014streams of charged particles travelling at up to 3,000 km a second\u2014from the center of two galaxies.\u201cWe\u2019ve seen galactic winds in other galaxies, but we have no idea how common they really are, because we\u2019ve never had the means to look for them systematically.
