They spark the thought experiments that generate award-winning novellas like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Lifecycle_of_Software_Objects\">\u201cThe Lifecycle of Software Objects,\u201d<\/a> and inspire Hollywood movies like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2543164\/awards\">\u201cArrival.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chiang\u2019s soulful short stories have earned him kudos from the likes of The New Yorker, which has called him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/persons-of-interest\/ted-chiangs-soulful-science-fiction\">\u201cone of the most influential science-fiction writers of his generation.\u201d<\/a> During this year\u2019s pandemic-plagued summer, he joined the Museum of Pop Culture\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mopop.org\/about-mopop\/the-mopop-blog\/posts\/2020\/july\/mopop-announces-its-next-science-fiction-and-fantasy-hall-of-fame-class\/\">Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame<\/a>.
