The company is working under a $2 million six-month study contract from the U.S. Space Force\u2019s Space and Missile Systems Center.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte Gerhart, chief of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/space-force-says-it-has-a-plan-to-fix-gaps-in-weather-data\/\">Space and Missile Systems Center Production Corps Low Earth Orbit Division<\/a>, said in a statement to <em>SpaceNews<\/em> that SpaceX received the contract in July from SMC\u2019s Space Enterprise Consortium.<\/p>\n<p>The contract is to \u201cassess the feasibility and long term viability of a \u2018weather data as a service business model,\u2019\u201d said Gerhart.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SpaceX won a $2 million contract from the SpEC consortium to study ways to provide weather data to the U.S. Space Force.
