IBM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/05\/17\/ibm-quantum-q-experience-qubits-most-powerful-processor-yet\/\">unveiled<\/a> its own quantum processor this past May, scientists have been experimenting with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/05\/29\/silicon-laced-diamonds-help-quantum-computers\/\">silicon-laced diamonds<\/a> (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/09\/06\/flip-flop-quantum-computer-design\/\">basic silicon<\/a>, too) as a quantum computing substrate, Google is already looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/07\/17\/google-puts-quantum-computers-to-work-in-cloud\/\">cloud-based<\/a> solutions and Microsoft is already creating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/09\/26\/microsoft-new-coding-language-is-made-for-quantum-computers\/\">new coding language<\/a> for the technology. Now Intel has taken another big step towards a quantum computing reality: the company has created a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.intel.com\/news\/intel-delivers-17-qubit-superconducting-chip-advanced-packaging-qutech\/\" target=\"_blank\">new superconducting chip<\/a> using advanced material science and manufacturing techniques, and delivered it to Intel\u2019s research partner in the Netherlands, QuTech.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Circa 2017 Quantum computing is the next big technological revolution, and it\u2019s coming sooner than you might think.
