In fact, it\u2019s undergone several evolutions since its inception in the 1950s. The first generation of AI was \u2018descriptive analytics,\u2019 which answers the question, \u201cWhat happened?\u201d The second, \u2018diagnostic analytics,\u2019 addresses, \u201cWhy did it happen?\u201d The third and current generation is \u2018predictive analytics,\u2019 which answers the question, \u201cBased on what has already happened, what could happen in the future?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While predictive analytics can be very helpful and save time for data scientists, it is still fully dependent on historic data. Data scientists are therefore left helpless when faced with new, unknown scenarios. In order to have true \u201cartificial intelligence,\u201d we need machines that can \u201cthink\u201d on their own, especially when faced with an unfamiliar situation. We need AI that can not just analyze the data it is shown, but express a \u201cgut feeling\u201d when something doesn\u2019t add up. In short, we need AI that can mimic human intuition.
