It\u2019s part of a three-stage project <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/341462\/scania-to-supply-15-phev-trucks-for-german-e-highways-trial\/\">announced in 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is to use a power supply, kind of like in the case of trains or trams, to drive on the highway using electricity, and then to switch to battery power or internal combustion engine for the final miles. That\u2019s the theory. The major obstacle is the cost of \u20ac2 million per km (in both directions) \u2014 according to a report from Sweden (see video below) \u2014 and further costs of maintenance of the new infrastructure.
