{"id":111105,"date":"2020-08-10T19:44:02","date_gmt":"2020-08-11T02:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/design-concept-raises-the-idea-of-a-water-driven-yamaha-motorcycle"},"modified":"2020-08-10T19:44:02","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T02:44:02","slug":"design-concept-raises-the-idea-of-a-water-driven-yamaha-motorcycle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/design-concept-raises-the-idea-of-a-water-driven-yamaha-motorcycle","title":{"rendered":"Design concept raises the idea of a water-driven Yamaha motorcycle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/design-concept-raises-the-idea-of-a-water-driven-yamaha-motorcycle3.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We came across a piece today <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/motorbikewriter.com\/water-power-future-motorbikes\/\" target=\"_blank\">over at Motorbike Writer<\/a> about Yamaha preparing a water-powered motorcycle, and while a quick Google revealed this to be nothing more than a <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/45768315\/YAMAHA-THESIS-PROJECT-H20-XT-REVIVAL\" target=\"_blank\">Yamaha-sponsored thesis project from 2016<\/a>, the idea itself is fascinating enough to follow down the rabbit hole.<\/p>\n<p>Water-powered or water-engined are the wrong terms for this. What\u2019s being proposed is a system that replaces the chain, belt or shaft drive to the rear wheel with a hydraulic system that uses water pressure to spin the back wheel. So a fluid drive is probably the better way to put it. Designer Maxime Lefebvre admits as much in the \u201cengine breakdown\u201d slide, saying \u201cto be effective, it needs a water pump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That water pump would be the engine. But how realistic is it to think about a water drive system? And what would be the pros and cos of such a thing?
