A new Tel Aviv University study finds that water vapor in the atmosphere may serve as a potential renewable energy source in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The research, led by Prof. Colin Price in collaboration with Prof. Hadas Saaroni and doctoral student Judi Lax, all of TAU\u2019s Porter School of the Environment and Earth Sciences, is based on the discovery that <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/electricity\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">electricity<\/a> materializes in the interaction between <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/water+molecules\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">water molecules<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/metal+surfaces\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">metal surfaces<\/a>. It was published in <i>Scientific Reports<\/i> on May 6, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe sought to capitalize on a naturally occurring phenomenon: electricity from water,\u201d explains Prof. Price. \u201cElectricity in thunderstorms is generated only by water in its different phases\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/water+vapor\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">water vapor<\/a>, water droplets, and ice.
