Dr. Atala says that the organoids allow researchers to analyze a drug\u2019s impact on an organ \u201cwithout the noise\u201d of an individual\u2019s metabolism.<\/p>\n<p>He cited Rezulin, a popular <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2000\/03\/22\/us\/fda-withdraws-drug-for-diabetics-citing-health-risks.html\" title=\"\">diabetes drug recalled in 2000<\/a> after there was evidence of liver failure. His lab tested an archived version of the drug, and Dr. Atala said that within two weeks, the liver toxicity became apparent. What accounts for the difference?
