Results of the new study, presented May 1 on arXiv.org, shed more light on the properties of this jet, which could improve the understanding of very-high energy (VHE) neutrinos.<\/p>\n<p>Blazars, classified as members of a larger group of active galaxies that host <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/active+galactic+nuclei\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">active galactic nuclei<\/a> (AGN), are powerful sources of emission across the <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/electromagnetic+spectrum\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">electromagnetic spectrum<\/a> from radio to very <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/high+energy\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">high-energy<\/a> gamma frequencies. Their characteristic features are <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/relativistic+jets\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">relativistic jets<\/a> pointed almost exactly toward the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>In general, blazars are perceived by astronomers as high-energy engines serving as natural laboratories to study <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/particle+acceleration\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">particle acceleration<\/a>, relativistic plasma processes, magnetic field dynamics and black hole physics.
