Either way, it\u2019s important to know how pliable we humans are going to be.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hci.cs.umanitoba.ca\/projects-and-research\/details\/would-you-do-as-a-robot-commands\" target=\"_blank\">Researchers at the University of Manitoba<\/a> were curious about how far people would go in obeying the commands of a robot, so they designed <a href=\"http:\/\/hci.cs.umanitoba.ca\/assets\/publication_files\/2013-would-you-do-as-a-robot-commands.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">an experiment<\/a> that echoes Stanley Milgram\u2019s infamous obedience studies, in which many participants obeyed an authority figure who told them to administer painful electrical shocks to strangers.<\/p>\n<p>Substitute a small but slightly evil-sounding humanoid robot for the lab-coated researcher, and give the participants a really, really boring task rather than a morally fraught one, and you have the set up below.
