But what if there was a way to restore those connections? An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-020-58831-9#Bib1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">EU funded study<\/a> is seeking to do just that by getting real biological neurons to synaptically communicate with artificial ones.<\/p>\n<p>Though still in the early stages of study, <a href=\"https:\/\/synch.eucoord2020.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">SYNCH<\/a>, a team of scientists from the U.K., Switzerland, Germany, and Italy, have created what they describe as a \u201csynaptically connected brain-silicon Neural Closed-loop Hybrid system.\u201d Basically, they\u2019ve taken actual brain cells and artificial brain cells, and got them talking back and forth over the internet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In focal brain diseases, a patient\u2019s neural network loses key connections, preventing the brain from functioning as it miraculously should.
