The ancient highway is thought to have been constructed at the command of the warrior queen Lady K\u2019awiil Ajaw, and would have been coated in white plaster.<\/p>\n<p>The 26 ft (8 m)-wide road, also known as Sacbe 1 or White Road 1, stretches from the ancient city of Cob\u00e1 \u2013 one of the greatest cities of the Maya world \u2013 to the distant, smaller settlement of Yaxun\u00e1, located in the Yucatan Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>Newly-published research has shed new light on the nature of Lady K\u2019awiil Ajaw\u2019s great road by making use of <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/tag\/lidar\/\">light detection and ranging<\/a>, otherwise known as LiDAR technology.
