Elon Musk seems to think that a million miles is just about right \u2014 last April he <a href=\"https:\/\/ww.electrek.co\/2019\/04\/23\/tesla-battery-million-miles-elon-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> that Tesla had a \u201c1 million-mile battery pack\u201d in the pipeline. That\u2019s an ambitious goal, to say the least \u2014 do we really need a battery that lasts three to four times as long as a typical car? We will.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/chargedevs.com\/newswire\/does-teslas-latest-patent-have-to-do-with-its-promised-million-mile-battery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charged<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>As a recent article posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/arielcohen\/2020\/12\/30\/teslas-new-lithium-ion-patent-brings-company-closer-to-promised-1-million-mile-battery\/#6b691d8833e3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forbes<\/a> points out, while today\u2019s typical Li-ion battery packs are more than adequate for individual EV owners, applications such as taxi services and long-distance trucking will require batteries optimized for longevity (according to writer Ariel Cohen, the average trucker logs some 100,000 to 150,000 miles per year). Thus, long-life batteries are likely to be critical to the success of the Tesla Network (a proposed fleet of robo-taxis) and the Tesla Semi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How long should an EV battery last?
