Yet other, more treatable problems are thought to account for 40 percent of the 44.4 million <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alz.co.uk\/research\/statistics\">cases<\/a> of dementia worldwide, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2013\/12\/26\/drug-hopes-to-delay-onset-of-alzheimers-symptoms-with-a-monthly-shot-in-the-arm\/\">treatments that do exist for slowing Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/a> require early intervention.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, seniors <a href=\"http:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2013\/10\/23\/brain-training-not-all-its-cracked-up-to-be-study-finds\/\">stand to gain<\/a> quite a bit from an expansion of cognitive check-ups.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas Scharre, an <a href=\"http:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2013\/01\/30\/brain-pacemakers-used-to-treat-alzheimers-disease\/\">Ohio State University<\/a> neurologist, has developed a cognitive test that\u2019s cheap and easy and can be administered to large groups of people at once.
