While that may not seem like much, it\u2019s still an important first step in removing physical contact from ultrasound scans, as that can sometimes introduce variability in a doctor\u2019s readings.<\/p>\n<p>The system, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41377-019-0229-8\">described in research<\/a> published in the journal <em>Light: Science &amp; Applications <\/em>on Friday, uses two lasers: one to generate sound waves that bounce around inside the patient\u2019s body, and the second to detect them as they reflect back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists have developed a system of lasers that can probe inside the human body, much like an ultrasound, but from a distance.
