I don’t subscribe but if you do, you’ll get more but the short summary kinda gives a general idea. Astronomers spotted 60 stars with potential Dyson sphered around them but it isn’t 100% verifiable. It could be a simpler explanation they say.

Sufficiently advanced aliens would be able to capture vast quantities of energy from their star using a massive structure called a Dyson sphere. Such a device would give off an infrared heat signature — and astronomers have just spotted 60 stars that seem to match.

Now that’s Wonderful. It’s touching by how they were brought to tears in making progress in fighting neurogenitive disease.

Auckland scientists are celebrating an important breakthrough after zeroing in on a rare genetic mutation causing motor neuron disease. Their work is now being published in the journal Brain, and national correspondent Amanda Gillies spoke to the lead researcher. ➡ SUBSCRIBE: https://bit.ly/NewshubYouTube.

Scientists create vaccine with potential to protect against future coronaviruses https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/05/scientists-create-vaccine-with-potential-to-protect-against-future-coronaviruses https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/05/scientists-create-vaccine-with-potential-to-protect-against-future-coronaviruses#respond Tue, 07 May 2024 01:22:40 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/05/scientists-create-vaccine-with-potential-to-protect-against-future-coronaviruses

Ohh nice! New vaccine science it seems though I’m not familiar with vaccines, this does seem like a novel approach. It’s kinda future proof to train the immune system to target proteins that are shared across all coronavirus’ I’m hoping it provides, as do they, that it provides a better solution than current vaccines.

The vaccine is made by attaching harmless proteins from different coronaviruses to minuscule nanoparticles that are then injected to prime the body’s defences to fight the viruses should they ever invade.

Because the vaccine trains the immune system to target proteins that are shared across many different types of coronavirus, the protection it induces is extremely broad, making it effective against known and unknown viruses in the same family.

“We’ve shown that a relatively simple vaccine can still provide a scattershot response across a range of different viruses,” said Rory Hills, a graduate researcher at the University of Cambridge and first author of the report. “It takes us one step forward towards our goal of creating vaccines before a pandemic has even started.”

Japan to build NASA a pressurized Moon campervan for 30-day trips https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/04/japan-to-build-nasa-a-pressurized-moon-campervan-for-30-day-trips https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/04/japan-to-build-nasa-a-pressurized-moon-campervan-for-30-day-trips#respond Sun, 21 Apr 2024 19:22:40 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/04/japan-to-build-nasa-a-pressurized-moon-campervan-for-30-day-trips

Haven’t posted in a while, my mother is not doing well, had to take her to the ER the other day, but this is important and I hope it sets a trend of cooperation.

When NASA returns to the Moon, its astronauts will enjoy tooling around in a pressurized camper van courtesy of JAXA and Toyota. The two-person vehicle is part of a US/Japan agreement that includes putting the first Japanese astronauts on the Moon.

It’s beginning to look like NASA’s program to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon will resemble a car show as much as it does a scientific expedition. The space agency recently awarded contracts to develop an open off road vehicle to carry astronauts around on the Moon, though these are small and the driver and passengers have to wear spacesuits. Meanwhile, the Japanese vehicle being developed by JAXA and Toyota is a mobile outpost where the crew can live and work for up to 30 days in a shirt sleeve environment.

No doubt while wearing loud Hawaiian shirts.

Scientists Put Tardigrade Proteins Into Human Cells. Here’s What Happened https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/03/scientists-put-tardigrade-proteins-into-human-cells-heres-what-happened Fri, 29 Mar 2024 15:22:29 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/03/scientists-put-tardigrade-proteins-into-human-cells-heres-what-happened

Can anyone think of a good use for this protein in our cells in the future? Perhaps in space travel? 😁

Freeze ‘em, heat ‘em, blast them into empty space; with survival skills unlike any other organism on the planet, those hardy critters known as tardigrades will only come back for more.

While it’s clear their ability to withstand stress is in part due to their ability to turn their insides into gel, the mechanisms behind this act of metabolic preservation haven’t yet been made clear.

A new study led by researchers from the University of Wyoming found that expressing key tardigrade proteins in human cells slowed metabolism, providing critical insights into how these virtually indestructible invertebrates can survive under the most extreme conditions.

Aerospace experts design liquid hydrogen-powered jet that can travel halfway around world with no layover: ‘A pivotal moment’ https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/03/aerospace-experts-design-liquid-hydrogen-powered-jet-that-can-travel-halfway-around-world-with-no-layover-a-pivotal-moment Fri, 15 Mar 2024 15:22:23 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2024/03/aerospace-experts-design-liquid-hydrogen-powered-jet-that-can-travel-halfway-around-world-with-no-layover-a-pivotal-moment

A liquid hydrogen airliner with a range of over 5,000 miles. It’s feasible per them, by 2030 and limits pollution.

A breakthrough liquid hydrogen-fueled aircraft concept developed in the United Kingdom could take passengers from London to San Francisco with no layover.

That’s because the massive plane would have an operational range of 5,250 nautical miles (equivalent to air miles) and wouldn’t need to land to fill up with gas. This would provide more than enough range for the flight of roughly 11 hours and 4,664 nautical miles.

This concept plane was developed by the FlyZero project, a program led by the Aerospace Technology Institute with the goal of providing air travel with no pollution (zero-carbon) in the next decade, as the agency states on its website.

A pilot study but possibly concerning. A banned pesticide found in Cheerios and Quaker oats. They suggest sticking to organic. The pesticide got in there by importing ingredients.

This week, the Environmental Working Group, revealed findings from a study that shows that chlormequat chloride, a chemical banned in the U.S. was found in some of our favorite cereals. Here’s what the experts say.
