This sounded primitive even for the late 20th century, so I did some research and went with CEREC instead where a robot recreated the damaged part of the tooth on the spot and then the new robot-built part was then glued on to the damaged tooth. So the advantage of CEREC is that only the damaged part of the tooth is replaced, the healthy part is left alone.

The solution turned out to be BreathRX. Problem solved. (A lot cheaper than any other possible solution.)
